My Paint Job is Beyond Awful
I too have a 2000 Kalapana Black Mitsubishi Eclipse. When I moved to Phoenix in June 2004, my paint job was excellent. Even the serviceman at the Avondale Dealership said he had never seen such a nice black paint job. But.....within one year, the paint on my car has started to dissolve all over. On the hood and the around the sunroof, the paint has dissolved down to the metal. Mitsubishi told me to bring the car in to show their bodyshop guy and every time I took my car, "I just missed the guy". How fortunate for them and unfortunate for me. So I'm with all of you.....I'll sign a petition to have my car fixed. How come other cars don't have dissolving paint problems? Obviously it's strictly a Mitsubishi issue. Also, my sunroof stopped opening and they said I wasn't pushing the button correctly. Please....even a kid is not that stupid, they just refused to repair the items that needed repair or replacement before the warranty expired. I felt they ignored the issues so the repairs would have to come out of my pocket instead of theirs. I even had an extended warranty for which the items were not honored. 2006 GS Don't buy it.
I have had my 06 GS for about 5 months now. At 5,500 miles my brakes are squeeling everytime i push them in, my dashboard makes a loud squeeking noise everytime i hit a bump in the road, my dash is starting to bubble, and my clutch is making a loud clunking noise. All this at 5,500 miles. This car is a piece of crap. I can't wait to hear the excuses at the dealership when i bring it in.

2000 Galant with 57,000 miles of PROBLEMS
I've been looking for a RECALL on this car since 20,000 miles. I purchased this car new at BRAD BENSON MITSUBISHI, South Brunswick, NJ. I paid approx. $21,000.
FIRST BIG PROBLEM: TIRES--I AM ON MY 4TH SET! YES, 4 SETS OF TIRES WITH ONLY 57,000 MILES. I always check tire pressure and take my car for regular maintenance. For some unknown reason, the tire tred wears down to bald tires. I've asked the dealership about recalls several times, but they said there have been None.
NEXT PROBLEM: I AM ON MY 3RD BATTERY. Most recently, I needed to replace a Mitsubishi Battery that had significant leakage and corrosion coming out of the top. Although the Mitsubishi Battery did not last anywhere near as long as it was supposed to, NO WARRANTY--so, I pay again with approximately 48,000 miles on my car.
NEXT PROBLEM: SWAY BARS. BRAD BENSON MITSUBISHI Service Dept. said they need to be replaced because they just "wear out."--AT UNDER 50,000 MILES?? AND A COST OF (IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY) APPROX. $700 TO FIX??
NEXT PROBLEM: BRAKES
MOST RECENT "BIG" PROBLEM: ELECTRICAL IN AUGUST 2006. I have not used BRAD BENSON MITSUBISHI service for over one year now. I IMAGINE THAT THE DEALERSHIP WOULD CHARGE A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF MONEY TO FIX THIS. THIS IS WHAT BROUGHT ME TO THIS WEB SITE WHILE I WAS LOOKING FOR "RECALL!!!"
P.S. MY CAR IS SILVER/GREY AND THE PAINT IS FINE.

Wish I found this site sooner....!
Greetings. Just found this site. Geez, I can't believe some of the horror stories that people are having with they're Eclipses! Crappy manufacturing and deadbeat dealers(found that not to surpising!),it just freaking amazing!!! Just wish I found this site sooner,cuz about two months ago I bought a 2007 Eclipse!!! Pure Red ,GT V6,Sun and Sport package, etc. LOVE the looks of it! Still got folks gawking at it in the small town,where I live, in southern Ohio. A real chick mobile! Now, after reading some of the stories on here, the Pucker Factor comes into play with my purchase from Mits.!!! Anyhows, I hope the Mits company sees this site and correct the errors of there ways! They're toting the 25 years in U.S.,from what I gather from this site, they mean 25 years crap! Can't say much about the dealers! I hope and pray that all of you find some kinda justice with your Eclipses! Maybe turth and justice will pervail! Regards,Randy

why do we all have the same problems
OK I might not have it as bad as some of you guys, just because i got my 2001 GS eclipse black used with 66000 miles on it for 7 grand flat.The cost is different, but the problems are the same, my from left has the fading paint problem, my steering wheel shakes when i hit the brakes hard.I had the headlight problem mines was a burnt socket, but it still works with out taking it to the shop.My biggest worry just started and i need some help with it. When i shift the car from park to drive it starts to make a clicking sound, but then it stops when i get going, sometimes i hear it when i first start the car, then it stops.If anyone knows what this is please let me know,me being a young black male, i most likely will be ripped off by a repair shops, if i ask then to tell me. THANKING ALL HONEST AMERICANS IN ADVANCE. P.S. i've just read to many letters for all of us to be lying. Together we will make MITSUBISHI PAY!!!!!!

Smoke bomb
I can not stand Mitsubishi they are all like smoke bombs waiting to happen. My first car was a 3000 GT and low and be hold after a year the stupid thing started smoking, we did everything to fix it but the only solution was to get a new motor. I thought that was unnecessary sorry me and my stupid ass went out and bought a eclipse and what do you know the damn thing started smoking 4 months later and it need a ring job. I will never ever even look at a Mitsubishi again.

I have a 2003 Eclipse and was just told it need a new clutch only has 50,000 miles, the dealership stated this is a wear item and not covered under warranty, the garage which checked the clutch stated in no way should the clutch need to be replaced at 50,000 miles, Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

What did I do!
I have a 2006 eclipse Gs and have been to the dealer so many times for the brakes. They told my it was the way I was driving but I know they are full of crap. I fixed the brakes at Brake Masters and have no more problems.I made a big mistake trading in my 2004 civic for this S**t. Tight car! I have no other problems and I want to keep it because It's such a chick magnet.Know reading all these comments scared the crap right out of me.Should i sell it or see what happens. Please give me some advice.

i have a 2002 gt 5 speed. the other day i was driving, and the car will get up to 3000rpm, and then bog back down to 2500, and then slowly go back up past 3000. it does it in every gear. what is this?

Paint Problem
I have a 2001 patriot red eclipse with the same paint problem. The clear coat started to flake off in certain areas about 2 years ago. I talked to the dealer about it and was told that I must have been parking it under something that would ruin the paint. I told him if that were the case, then why wasn't the entire car flaking away, and why isn't my other car having the same problem? He shrugged me off, and said there was nothing they would do.

Potential Buyer
Hello to all, I was at the Mitsubishi dealer last weekend I was looking at the 2007 Eclipse GT. I was/am seriously considering buying it, it is very cool looking and the price seems right. DO you think the 2007 model still has the same issues??. Should I look at other cars equivalent to the Eclipse? Any comments will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I also own a 2000 eclipse gt with major paint issues as most of you. I have never seen a car that is only six years old have paint chipping off all over the roof and down the back of the trunk. It is now starting on the hood of my car. I have seen many just like mine with the same problem and some that look even worse. I will never own another eclispe or a mitsubishi in general! If they can have recalls on the size of a airbag warning sticker then I believe there is room for a new paint job, but done right this time!!! VERY DIRTY DEALERS!!!!

clutch slave cylinder
my 03 eclipse's slave cylinder started leaking fluid right were the rod come out. when i took it apart i found that mitsubishi did not put a stainless steel spring in the cylinder so rust had started to form in just the right spot to breach the Solenoid O ring and gave it a bad leak. i suggest that people take it a part just to see and i believe the aftermarket slave cylinder has a stainless steel spring

I am crying that I am stuck with this poop people call a car! 2003 falling apart at the seems for no reason....I baby my Mitsu and it has RUST on the hood...big gaping BALD spots in the paint ....on the hood, sunroof and trunk!! What a joke- did children paint this car or WHAT!!! New Alternater....New Starter.....Engine Oil leaks...smoking...like Cheech and Chong!! How embarassing can this get? I drive this AWESOME car and it is a big pile of CRAP!!! I feel Raped! I guess I got a good screw for my money, eh?

Just want to be informed
I have a 2000 eclipse I have to admit I have no complaints on the engine but now my car is getting a little older the battery terminal or post is worn out the dealership personel tells me that I need a change the entire battery terminal/cable. To replace the terminal mitsubishi outlet stated it will cost 500 dollars plus. They tell me that since the car is electrical and computerized they recommend I change the whole cable. Is this true I don't know? In addition, it cost me about 150 dollars for a new key and reprogramming I just think the cost is a bit rideculous!
