2007 Eclipse Spyder Top Issue

I recently purchased a loaded 07 Eclipse Spyder GT and am now dealing with a convertible top issue. When lowering the convertible top the rear defroster connectors are breaking loose from the rear window. The dealership attempted to fix by reconnecting but it doesn't stop it from seperating. The dealership advised that the convertible top is going to have to be replaced due to this issue that seemed to be pretty small. The dealer went on to explain that the top was misaligned from the factory and that the only way they will be able to fix the issue completely is by
replacing the whole top since the rear window comes manufactured into the top (Prewired). This seems a bit extreme but my dealer is stepping up and trying to make it right. Has anyone else had this occur?

I was interested in buying a 2007 Eclipse GT. After reading about the leaks, brakes and dealership service I will opt for a Accura TXL.

Clearcoat Problem

I agree with the comment about wishing that I had known some of these problems before buying my '03 GT. The biggest problem I've had is the poor clearcoat on the roof. It's called "chicken-feet" which is what happens when the clearcoat wasn't properly activated when sprayed on - totally the factory's fault. I've been trying to get Mitsubishi to correct their mistake, but have not been successful. If anyone has had any luck of any kind, please let me know.

Defective paint DO NOT BUY A A MITSUBISHI!!!

I have a 2001 Black MITSUBISHI GALANT and about 18 months ago the paint on the roof started fading right in front of the sunroof. It has now spread like cancer and now the spoiler, hatch, hood, and panels around the windows are all fading away. The clearcoat has disintegrated and shed like a lizard. I took it to an independant paint and body shop and they estimated $1,500 to "restore" the car! I went to the dealer to ask them to correct their defect and the body shop said they have seen this alot and that it was a "factory defect" and to go talk to the dealer manager. The manager told me it wasn't covered under the 3 year/36,000 mile warranty and there was nothing they could do. I will never buy a Mitsubishi EVER again! I hope prospective buyers see this website.

2000 Shitsubishi Eclipse

Beautiful Car has been a piece of ---- since the next day that I bought it. It will not crank most of the time. Have had mechanics check it over & over and they tell me nothing is wrong with it. Not a dependable car at all. The "service engine soon" light never goes off. How can I disable this permanately? Does anyone know? My advice to all...NEVER buy a Shitsubishi Eclipse....

I have a 2003 Eclipse..Black..Yeah, after 3 years the paint started fading on the roof and hood. No warranty..Just had it repainted. Wow, this car sucks. Rattles and creaks and the wind noise is horrible. Brakes started squealing at 12k miles..I've since replaced 2x. Dashboard creaks, but I haven't seen any cracks yet..Finally, my check engine light started coming on right away. Dealer reset several times and it went away for awhile. Its back now. Gonna try and offload before I really get bit. I had two eclipes in the mid 90's that I was fond of, but this car is horrible. I will never by Mitsu again.

cracked dash

I have a huge complaint.... I have an 03 GS, and my dashborad cracked. I live in Florida and of course i was told by Mitsubishi that nothing could be done because i unfortunalty live in the "sunshine state" and it just happens! Not only did the dash crack but all of the little plastic pieces in the windshield vent fell out. I would be driving and occasionally i would feel something hit my foot, they were actually falling through!!! i want to know how many other people have had this problem. And what makes it worse is that this car WAS a lease at the time i noticed it happening, but because the company is so "wonderful" i ended up having to buy out my lease! -thanx for this opprtunity to vent my anger!

Just like everyone else

Yes, I have a 2000 Eclipse GT and like everyone else I made all my payments on time and got stuck with a car that looks like it belongs in a junk yard. I stopped washing a year ago because I just get pissed when I have to look at my car up close. Dealers are whores and I can afford maybe $500 to repaint. Has anyone tried macco? I've been told a lot of different stories about them. I just need my black car to be black again.

Eclipse 2000 and fading

My wife got this car before she met me and 3 years later the paint was fading on the spoiler. Since it was under warranty I got it replaced. After the warranty the whole was turning white, when it is black. This is the worst manfactured car I ever seen.

I have had 3 Acura's and nothing like this. The dashboard is cracking everywhere and the car looks bad with the paint faded.

Why is it the 2000 Ecplise paint is fading for everyone? I don't think Mitsubishi cares anyways. I will never buy one, ever.

You have it good...

You think your eclipse is bad, try owning a gen 2. I have a 95 eclipse GSX... it costs me a thousand bucks a month almost... too bad because its really fun to drive. If only it woult stay together long enough for me to sell.

02 GS eclipse

For the most part I like my car, but I have the same minor problems, like my check engine light. (it turns of and on, changing the oil makes it stay off... for a while, i hope its just broken. My paint is fairly good probably because its silver and not black (black is vulnerable to uv rays more than other colors). My dashboard though, has cracked probably do to the black cheap plastic, I also bent my rim on a pothole. Now I'm left with a terrible vibration, and the people at the shop thought "I nailed a curb". So the rims aren't durable, but i plan to get new ones any way.
I too also had some mysterious moisture on my carpet, I may have left the sunroof open a little bit, or it may be leaking.
My brakes started to squeak after i got it, i had the pads a rotors replaced and the noise came back soon after. I think the noise is from brake dust build up. Cleaning them help. Also starting the engine is rough but it smooths out after warming up. I hate that mostly everyone has the same probs, Mits. should have known these thing would happen and fixed the problems. Thats what durability testing is for.

Solution to squealing breaks

I posted another one of these earlier today before I went to the dealership for a return trip about my squealing brakes on my 2006 Eclipse. But after the visit I can happily say that after a quick search by the service manager, and a call to their local manager, there is a repair kit for the squealing brake problem. It covers the pads, calipers, rotors, and something else. That covers all of it he said. We will see here in about a week when the work is done. I was hoping to offer a relief to some of the horror stories I read on this site.

Badddd Breaks

I have a 2006 Eclipse. I am having the same problem as Kathy (langkathy311@hughes.net) below, with my breaks. Squeal!!!! I already took my car in once and had them check out the breaks. At that point I only had 14,000 miles on it. They turned my rotors and said that they could try to clean up my breaks from being glazed over. But the sound would come back. "That's just how it is." That's B***S***. I have not even owned that car for a year. I am taking it back in today and we will see what happens.
