I almost bought an eclipse
I really liked the way eclipse looked compared to most cars when I was considering buying one, but when I started researching about them and asking around every one that I knew told me to ''reconsider'' even my aunt who used to own an 01 eclipse told me too. so I went and bought an 03 Honda civic ex, my friend on the other hand bought an 03 eclipse, so I guess we will see which is better. (he already had to get his back bumper tightened because it was rattling LOL)

Paintproblems
I bought my 2003 Silver Eclipse back in 2005 and right after I bought it the paint starting coming off within less then a year. It is looking horrible and shouldn't be. I have yet to take it to a dealership. I will be taking it within the next 2 weeks and decided to see if other people were having the same problem. Now that I know their are I will go up there and not back down.

2003 eclipse spyder convertible
Wow can't believe we all have the same problem! I have a black convertible and within the last year it has faded considerably, so much so that everyone I know(and some I don't) comments on how bad it looks on an otherwise good looking car. Besides that I have had the brakes replaced 3x with not just squeaking but grinding.I had them done initially by someone else and mitsubishi said they squeak because they were after market brakes. Well after Mitsubishi put them in they are no better!! Did I tell you I needed motormounts and axels replaced too along with a new thermostat? I don't know about everyone else but the reason I don't mind as much making payments is because I think the car is still fairly new and won't cost me the expenses a used car has. WRONG!!! Well anyway thanks for sharing so to speak

bad paint and cracked dash
I bought my 2000 black eclipse GT in 04 with 40000 miles on it. At the time the car looked really nice and seemed to run great. after about a year i started to get the same problems that everyone ealse seems to have with the paint just dissapearing on the hood and trunk, not only that my dash has also sufferd many cracks in it from just sitting there. I also have had many problems with the service department and sales department at the dealership i bought my car. metro mitsubishi in bloomington minn. they seem to give you the runaround everytime you come in with a problem not wanting to fix it or blaming you. This was the first car i bought from a dealership myself and found it to be a very bad exsperiance. I would never go there again and after reading all of these complaints would never buy another eclipse or mitsubishi again

2001 Eclipse: Bad Paint Job + more
My 2001 black eclipse looks like SH*T. The paint is coming off and I had spent nearly a thousand on mechanical repairs. I took my car to the dealership to see if there is any way to have my car re-painted on account that corporate had stated the "coating of the car had a default." I just found out today I had been denied. I have called corporate to find out if there is any way to reconsider before I decide to take legal actions. I'm so upset, I'm willing to sell my car back to Mitsubishi for how much I owe on it.

2006 Clutch Problem
Like many of you, we are experiencing problems with our 2006 eclipse. With 11,000 miles we are having a new clutch put in. Of course at our cost. So I filed a complaint with the national dispute center and have a hearing tomorrow. I don't expect that it will go well. This is our 4th manual shift car. We hae never replaced a clutch. Including on the 1997 Toyota Celica we traded in with 126,000 miles on it. Customer service from Mitsubishi Corp has been a stalemate. No consideration for us at all. last Mitsubishi for us.

co owner of 2002 eclipse
My son bought his 2002 GT Eclipse June 30th, 2006 in OK as soon as he returned from basic training but before reporting to his base in NC. Upon purchasing the car we made sure the salesman knew the car would be travling and living over 1000 miles away. He promised the car was in excellent condition and had been checked out. To our horror after driving over 800 miles of the trip and on a deadline to report the drivers floor board front and back was filled with water. My son continued his journey and simply did not use the airconditioner. Now a year later he has deployed, we went and got his car only to find the problem still exist along with the black paint vanishing also on the roof. My son took care of this car as if it were his baby- his first car and it has to have problems. I would like to get it fixed before he comes home from Iraq- what do I do, who do I call? I have 15 months if the government didn't lie as well.

2006 Eclipse-Head on Collision Airbags DID NOT deploy
I was involved in a head on collision on 6/30/07 and the impact was equivelent to hitting a wall at 65-70 mph. My airbags did not deploy causing me to hit the steering wheel and neck on the steering wheel. Where the sensors are, the car in mangled. Everyone who has seen the pictures or car says that they should have deployed. Now I have a damaged corotive artery in my neck and have a concusion (bruising on my forehead, headaches, and short term memory loss). I have to constantly be on pain medications, unable to sleep well, cant work or drive. All mitsubishi could say was "well what do you want us to do about it?" The only thing I will give it credit for is the impact it took. I hit a 92 chevy g20 van head on. But I'm still alive and didnt have the motor in my lap.

03 Eclipse - paint problems
I've had my car for 2003 Mitsubshi Eclipse for 4 years and I'm having similar paint problems. The paint on the hood and roof is disappearing.
For the other owners who have had similar problems - what can we do? Did you read into Mitsubishi?

I have a 2000Mitsubishi eclipse with paint problems it started on the roof and is appearing on the trunk. I have owned many cars in fact i just sold a 1993 van and the paint was still in great shape so in reading all these other paint problems i really feel that something was wrong with the black paint. i have seen a few other black eclipes around town with this same problem. I know this paint problem was not caused by anything we did because i also have 98 jeep with a wonderful paint job and i have cared for both cars with the same products. I also have trouble with the head light (left) sometimes when you turn the lights on the left one does not come on you have to get out of the car and give the light a little tap and then it will turn on.f I think maybe i should print these pages of eclipse problem and walk around one of the stores telling customers about these problems i sure wish someone had told me about them before i bought one. word of mouth still can mean something. This car looks great from the sides just don't look at the top or the trunk.

2003 Mitsubishi GS
Where to begin? My car is only 4 years old and already the black paint is vanishing on places like the Hood, Roof, and Trunk. I don't have a convertible because i am allergic to Mold/Mildew. Guess what? It doesn't matter because even though i played it safe and didn't get a convertible, i hop in my car every morning to soak my feet in the puddle that has built in the driver seat floor just long enough for my pants legs to be soaked when i get to work. It's a little hard not to touch the floor when you drive manual...believe me, i tried. I need to know if anyone else has had this problem and already had it diagnosed so that you can let me know before i take it to the dealership so that when they stand around like a bunch of MORONS and give me some lame explanation, i can have some idea which will help keep me a little less gullable. Thank you!

'07 eclipse
I just bought a brand new '07 eclipse a month ago. I've washed it 3 times and the paint is chipping off and cracking all over my front end. Ask me if I'm happy.

My 2001 BLACK Eclipse is also in horrible condition. Since 2005 I've had paint problems, which at first I thought must be something we had done, until it started spreading. Now the roof is rusted to the metal (it started with bubbling, then turned white now its bubbling/grainy rust) and the hood is almost totally white/gray as well as many spots on the trunk. It continues to spread like a fungus! Two dealers & a corporate executive told my husband and I "so sorry, you're out of warranty!" One dealer also must have thought we were totally naive when he stated that the sun does that to all black cars in Florida (where we have lived for 20 years!) I'M ANXIOUS TO SEE IF ANYONE HAS STARTED A CLASS ACTION SUIT OR ANY OTHER ACTION WHICH WOULD FORCE MITZUBISHI TO ADMIT LIABILITY ON THEIR PAINT AND REPAINT OUR CARS!!! -

2001 Black Paint Job
I just bought my 2001 Stratus R/T in Aug '06 (Eclipse Bastard Cousin). Well it started off black...now my roof is turning white....I guess I need to save for a new paint job....or class action law suit...lol

2001 Mitsubishi Spyder.
My paint job on my BLACK started turning white in a spot about 3 months ago on the hood. not it has appeared on the trunk as well. 3 months later I have a gray hood. The connectors for the rear defrost have come disconnected about 3 separate times. I have returned several times to the dealership, everytime the state this is a common problem, they reconnect them and a next winter when i need the damn thing I'm left with no rear defrost. Not to mention I'm on my second transmition and everytime its cold the damn thing doesn't want to shift into second.
